WREN and Derby Churches and Chapels Preservation
Trust
Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd (WREN)
operates in those counties where Waste Recycling Group Ltd (WRG)
has landfill operations and supports some 500 new community projects
each year. WREN provides the majority of its funding via its
Grant Scheme which provides funding from £2,000 to £50,000
for community, heritage and environmental projects. WREN believes that the county-based Churches Trusts are
normally best placed to disburse funding for specialist
renovation projects for Christian places of worship. Hence,
through a current total of 11 block grant arrangements,
the Trusts themselves establish the project priorities
and disburse WREN funds accordingly. All annual awards
are subject to review by the relevant WREN volunteer advisory
panel and then agreed by the WREN Board. In addition, WREN
often provides Churches Trusts with additional funds through
Gift Aid. WREN in return is very keen to secure maximum
publicity for the Scheme (which remains poorly understood),
for both WRG and WREN. Trust websites like this one and
newsletters as well as local press releases for projects
are vitally important.
In Derbyshire, our relationship
with DCCPT has been running successfully since 2000 and
we have provided over £350,000
via annual block grants. We have also made annual awards
of Gift Aid totalling nearly £106,000. At the end
of 2005, the Trust had awarded 106 grants to restoration
projects. These are significant amounts to a significant
number of projects and this has made a real impact to the
heritage of Derbyshire. WREN looks forward to strengthening
its relationship with DCCPT such that funds continue to
make a difference locally but also that the story behind
the project is relayed to a wider audience.
